December – Catch up with KCH

  • by

We conducted an application process for scholarships at Jonathan Gloag Academy (JGA), giving children from Kibera slum in Nairobi the chance for a brighter future.

More than 500 boys and girls, starting from  Grade 1, arrived early in the morning, ready to take their first steps toward this life-changing opportunity. After enjoying breakfast together, they sat for tests in various subjects.

Our dedicated social workers are now carrying out home visits and background checks to ensure that scholarships go to the children who need them most. Following a rigorous selection process, the final candidates will be awarded scholarships that cover their education from their current Grade all the way to Grade 9.

Kenya Children’s Home

In response to Kenyan Government Legislation to phase out private children’s homes and orphanages since the 2022 Children’s Act was passed, we are delighted that all children previously cared for in the home have now been successfully adopted or reintegrated with their loving family, a wonderful outcome for them after all these years.

Those reintegrated are now part of the KCH Butterfly Programme. This programme oversees the welfare of former KCH children until they complete full time education, with KCH social workers visiting the children and their families at least twice per year. KCH also continues to pay any education costs directly to their new school (fees, uniform, books etc).

You can support children in our Butterfly programme by contributing to the deducated education fund that pays all school fees and associated school costs for each child. Contact us for more information.
