Suswa Sponsorship

The Suswa Soila Maasai girls rescue centre (SUSWA) in Suswa in the Rift Valley is home girls aged between 7 and 15 years old who have been saved from the fate of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early marriage.

This practice is still customary in the Maasai community as a rite of passage, marking a girl passing from childhood into womanhood. Sadly, however, it is normally performed on girls before they even reach the age of 13.

At SUSWA, the girls, many of whom are orphans and have no-one to protect them, are given an education as an alternative path in life to FGM.  Through their education, they have the chance of a different life and they also enrich their communities.  The girls are also supported by Kenya Children's Homes throughout their high school education when they leave SUSWA.

We are now running a sponsorship scheme for the SUSWA girls which costs just £10 a month.

Through this scheme a sponsor can support the girl’s primary and secondary education and living costs and help them to build a brighter future for themselves and their communities.

As a sponsor, you will receive a current photo of the girl, a letter from her and a progress report on both her home life and her school work.

If you are interested in sponsoring one of the girls directly, please contact our Perth office Tel: +44 (0)1738 633264 or email info@kenyachildrenshomes.org.uk
